Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

RNL was created to restore and improve the lives of those who have suffered traymatic brain or spinal cord injuries. Hennepin Healthcare is a level one trauma hospital at the center of a diverse population. We strongly believe that everyone has the right to live a happy and healthy life. We recognize the contributions of systemic racism, sexism, and discrimination against the LGBTQ community to health and wellness. We are committed to empowering our scientific research and clinical treatments with this lens.

We can all individually work to promote diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the world we live in. Being aware of the small steps necessary by each person is essential to creating an inclusive community. As a team we promote DEI and encourage others to do so as well.

DEI training and development of new members

Mitigating bias through inclusion of all team members on projects

The use and promotion of gender inclusive language

Attending events that promote DEI

Participating in Restorative Neurotrauma DEI journal club

Recognizing outstanding individuals from marginalized groups on our social media platforms

Researching and bringing awareness to racial, ethnic and gender inequities in our community

Creating outreach programs

In 2020, all of Minnesota was impacted by George Floyd and the events that came after. That moment in time was a catalyst for many. RNL and HHRI have been working closely to foster meaning, understanding, and compassion for the events before George Floyd, during and what has transpired afterwards. We work together to build inclusive research for those with brain and spinal cord injuries.
